On Monday 29 July, the European Commission authorised under EU State aid rules a Dutch measure worth €80 million to support Djewels B.V., a subsidiary of hydrogen supplier HyCC B.V., in demonstrating an innovative technology for producing renewable hydrogen. The measure will contribute to developing renewable hydrogen production in line with the objectives of the EU Hydrogen Strategy and the European Green Deal.
The Netherlands has informed the Commission of its plans to support the construction and operation over a three-year period of a demonstration project for the production of renewable hydrogen.
The project being supported is unique in the EU and represents a major innovation that goes well beyond the state of the art. In particular, the project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of producing renewable hydrogen using an alkaline electrolyser with high current density electrodes, high-pressure hydrogen output and a small spatial footprint. The innovative electrolyser will have a capacity of 20 MW.
Construction of the electrolyser is due to start in 2024, with the project becoming operational in 2027. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
