The Vice-President of the European Commission, Margarítis Schinás, and the President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), Spyros Capralos, signed a new cooperation agreement on Friday 26 July as the Paris Olympic Games got underway.
The aim of this act is to promote both European and Olympic values and the social role of sport.
And with good reason: the agreement encourages cultural and youth exchanges within the EU through various initiatives, including the forthcoming European Youth Olympic Festival in 2025. In addition, areas such as sustainability, inclusion, gender equality and tolerance are being given greater consideration.
In this way, the two bodies will work together to combat harassment and discrimination and guarantee the participation and integrity of athletes. Finally, regular meetings between the European Commission and the EOCs will enable joint events and projects to be planned.
