European Commission adopts investment guidelines for ‘New European Bauhaus’

On Monday 29 July, the European Commission adopted the investment guidelines for the ‘New European Bauhaus’.

This tool should help to illustrate how public and private investment can incorporate the values of sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics promoted by the ‘New European Bauhaus’ to transform Europe’s built environment, the Commission said in a press release.

The guidelines provide investors and developers with best practice and quality guarantees to put the ‘New European Bauhaus’ into practice and stimulate investment that transforms buildings, open spaces and neighbourhoods while integrating aesthetic aspiration, a commitment to sustainability and the affirmation of social values, inclusion, affordability and accessibility.

The tool covers both general advice to help investors, developers and project owners better understand the ‘New European Bauhaus’ and how it relates to various aspects and stages of investment and project development, and concrete recommendations, including planning and design solutions, technological solutions, public engagement approaches and alternative operational models, that help shape high-quality projects.

According to the Commission, the guidelines should make it easier to attract investment to urban and rural areas, thereby providing economic opportunities and promoting inclusive growth for local communities and balanced territorial development.
