06/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 5 June, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, took to the social media site X to congratulate the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on the victory of his party, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the Indian general elections, “the biggest election in the world”, which were held from 19 April until 1 June 2024. Mr Modi is thus preparing for a third term in office and is due to be sworn in on Saturday 8 June, according to several Indian media sources. “The EU looks forward to continuing to deepen its strategic partnership with India”, said Charles Michel. “Our continents must work together to tackle the most pressing global challenges: climate change, peace and security, and the fight against poverty”, he added.
