26/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 26 April, Dutch MEP Sophie in ’t Veld (Renew Europe) asked the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, to clarify the scope of the European Regulation on the management of migratory ‘crises’ as the Dutch media reported talks between the far-right and centre-right groups currently seeking a coalition programme (VVD, PVV, NSC and BBB) to declare the asylum situation in the country a ‘crisis’ so that no new asylum applications would be processed for some time. The MEP would like to know whether the EU acquis and the Crisis Regulation would allow this and whether the country’s problems are linked to long-term difficulties in terms of reception capacity and not to sudden influxes. She also asked the Commission whether it would launch infringement proceedings if this project were to go ahead. Link to her question: https://aeur.eu/f/bzc (SP)
