01/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 1 March, the European Commission announced that the EU had organised 13 humanitarian air bridge flights in February to help the population cope with the outbreak of potentially fatal infectious diseases in Yemen and the ensuing health emergency. The flights mainly served Aden and Sana’a airports, carrying more than 163 tonnes of aid, including medicines, vaccines and other medical items. Aid was transported to Yemen from Europe and EU aid stocks to Dubai via Nairobi. Yemen is experiencing one of the largest ongoing humanitarian crises in the world, with around 18.2 million people in need of humanitarian aid and protection services. Since 2015, the EU has helped to allocate more than €1 billion in humanitarian aid to Yemen, and €487 million in development aid. (CG)
