European Commission recommends that Member States continue efforts to reduce gas demand

On Tuesday 27 February, the European Commission called on Member States to continue their efforts to reduce demand for gas within the Union.

EU businesses and citizens reduced their gas consumption by 18% between August 2022 and December 2023, exceeding the 15% reduction target set during the energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This collective effort has saved 101 billion cubic metres of gas, the European Commission said in a press release.
