27/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 26 September, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, encouraged Georgia to speed up work on the pending measures concerning the priorities put forward by the European Commission in order to be able to recommend the country as a candidate for EU membership. “Georgia is working to deliver on the 12 priorities, notably on de-oligarchisation, the judiciary and anti-corruption”, said the Commissioner at the end of what he described as a “constructive” meeting with the Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili. The minister said implementing the Commission’s recommendations remains at the top of his country’s foreign policy agenda. The Commission is due to present its progress reports on 31 October or early November, for a decision by the Member States in December. (CG)
