European citizens in favour of digitising travel documents to facilitate travel within Schengen, according to Eurobarometer survey

27/09/23 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 27 September, the European Commission published a Eurobarometer on the digitisation of travel documents and the facilitation of travel, which shows that 68% of Europeans consider “that the digitalisation of the travel documents is an important step to accelerate border procedures, increase security and facilitate travelling to or outside the Schengen area”, according to a press release. 66% of Europeans would also prefer a single Schengen visa application at EU level, rather than one for each Member State. The report explores the perceptions of EU citizens as the Commission plans new proposals by the end of the year on digitising travel documents and facilitating travel. 26,000 people took part in the survey.
