05/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 September, EU High Representative Josep Borrell expressed his commitment to the release of European official Johan Floderus, who has been held illegally in Iran for 500 days (see EUROPE 13242/22). “Myself, my whole team, at all levels, the European institutions, in close coordination with the Swedish authorities – who have primary responsibility for consular protection and with his family – have put pressure on the Iranian authorities to free him”, he explained. “Every time we have had diplomatic meetings, at all levels, we have put the issue on the table”, added the High Representative, adding that the EU would continue to work for Mr Floderus’ release. “This is a matter close to our hearts and we will not stop until Floderus is released”, he warned.
