26/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Wednesday 26 July, the co-chairs of the European Green Party, Thomas Waitz and Mélanie Vogel, strongly criticised Giorgia Meloni’s government in Italy for its lack of responsiveness to recent environmental disasters in Europe. As devastating forest fires hit the Greek islands, violent storms batter northern Italy and forest fires ravage Palermo, Sicily, the Green Party leaders accused the government of playing down the tragedies as mere “bad weather” and, more broadly, criticised conservative parties’ lack of commitment to the climate. They also call for immediate action on climate policy and nature conservation, stressing the need to ensure the security of both citizens and future generations. (NP)
