Russian invasion of Ukraine / Belarus

EU countries give go-ahead for new restrictive measures

On Wednesday 26 July, the ambassadors of the Member States to the EU agreed to strengthen sanctions against Belarus because of the situation in the country and its involvement in the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The measures include lists of people and entities”, said the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council on Twitter.

The measures would also include an embargo on firearms, their parts and ammunition, and a ban on new dual-use goods.

The list of goods - subject to sanctions - contributing to the military and technological strengthening of Belarus or to the development of its defence and security sector has been extended to include goods used by Russia in its war in Ukraine and those contributing to the development or production of its military systems. These include semiconductor devices, integrated electronic circuits, manufacturing and test equipment, cameras and optical components, electrical/magnetic components and electronic devices, modules and assemblies.

In addition, the EU has decided to extend the export ban on goods and technologies for the aviation and space industries, including aircraft engines and parts. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
