23/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 June, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, met with the owner of the social network Twitter, Elon Musk, and asked him to strengthen his resources in order to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 13206/12), which comes into force on 25 August. “If the technology is not ready, they must have sufficient resources to bridge the gap”, emphasised Mr Breton. The European Commissioner for Internal Market, on a trip to California, highlighted “a few critical areas” where Twitter will be required to comply, including “child abuse, which is a very hot topic for us in Europe, as well as disinformation during elections”. “I’m not here to tell the company what to do [...] I’m the regulator and I have to tell them what the law is” he concluded.
