Electricity market reform, Council of EU publishes its general approach on REMIT regulation

23/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – Following the political agreement reached by the European Energy Ministers on Monday 19 June at the Energy Council in Luxembourg on the REMIT Regulation, which aims to combat manipulation of the wholesale electricity market (see EUROPE 13204/1), the Council of the EU has published its position on the text. The representatives of the governments of the Member States to the EU must now reach a compromise on the Electricity Market Design (EMD). The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU has notified its intention to reach an agreement before the start of Spain's rotating Presidency on 1 July, and is therefore consulting Member States with a view to starting negotiations with the European Parliament in the autumn.
