15/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – The objection period for the two delegated acts defining and regulating renewable hydrogen (see EUROPE 13120/6) ended on Wednesday 15 June, meaning that they can now be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and come into force. The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, expressed her delight on Twitter: “This means legal certainty for both producers and consumers of renewable hydrogen and is a pivotal step to attract necessary investments to decarbonise our energy system!” This framework, which defines and aims to ensure that renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) are produced from renewable electricity, will apply to both domestic production and imports. The European Commission’s target is 10 million tonnes of domestic production and 10 million tonnes of imported renewable hydrogen, in accordance with the REPowerEU plan. (PLD)
