15/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 13 June, the European Parliament called on the European Commission to adopt a more ambitious policy for the EU’s outermost regions. The report by Álvaro Amaro (EPP, Portuguese) on this subject was adopted with 589 votes in favour, 22 against and 16 abstentions. MEPs want EU policy to focus more on competitiveness, with a tailored approach that reflects the needs of each outermost region. MEPs want the Commission to propose a series of tailor-made action plans to implement this strategy and back it up with adequate financial resources. The European Parliament regrets that the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) still does not support fleet renewal by covering the purchase of new vessels. (LC)
