The European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) will be asked on 22 and 23 May to approve the agreement reached at the end of March with the Council of the EU on the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (see EUROPE 13153/1). However, MEPs call for the validation process to be sped up.
One of the shadow rapporteurs of the directive, Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe, French), on Thursday 11 May in Strasbourg called for the final text to be validated as soon as possible in the face of a sector that is asking for “a rapid response from Europe to launch the necessary investments to reach 42.5% of renewable energy in our energy mix by 2030”.
In addition, the European Parliament negotiating team sent a letter to the President of the Parliament, Roberta Metsola, so that the final text could be voted on in plenary as early as July, rather than in September as originally planned.
