11/05/23 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 11 May, the European Commission approved the mobilisation of €8 million in humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable populations in South-East Asia who are “suffering the dramatic consequences of climate shocks and conflicts”, emphasised European Commissioner Janez Lenarčič. A proportion of these funds are earmarked for disaster preparedness, such as Typhoon Rai and Tropical Storm Nalgae. The aid is then distributed as follows: €3.5 million for the Philippines (€1.5 million in humanitarian aid for populations affected by natural disasters and the protracted conflict in Mindanao and €2 million for disaster preparedness actions); €2 million for Nepal; a regional envelope of €2.3 million for disaster preparedness actions and contingency planning across the whole of South East Asia.
