The European Commission announced on Thursday 11 May that it had authorised a Spanish aid scheme worth €837 million to support the production of batteries for the industrial chain of electric and connected vehicles.
The aid is aimed at companies that produce batteries, their essential components and associated raw materials. This aid will be distributed until 31 December 2025 in the form of direct grants and loans.
In addition, the measure will be partly financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the main instrument of the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan.
The measure was found to be in line with EU state aid rules, more specifically with the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (see EUROPE 13138/1).
According to the European Commission, the scheme will contribute to the objectives of the Green Deal Industrial Plan (see EUROPE 13112/1) and the transition to a net zero emission economy. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
