On Friday 21 April, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced that it had awarded the EIT Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (EIT Climate-KIC) a grant of €20,194,083 to support its operational activities until the end of 2024 and help it complete its final phase.
The two-year grant will support the EIT Climate-KIC activities until it becomes financially sustainable.
By 2027, the KIC aims to help avoid over 500 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, mobilise more than €100 billion of funding to support the implementation of innovations that fight climate change and improve the innovation skills of more than 200,000 people in Europe.
The EIT Climate-KIC intends to deploy a so-called transformative approach to tackling climate change called Systems Innovation as a Service (SIaaS). This approach allows stakeholders developing new markets related to climate challenges to network, develop and exchange best practice.
