14/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – Renewed tensions in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (ex-militia from Darfur) are “very worrying”, said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, on Thursday 13 April, calling on “all parties to de-escalate”. In a statement issued in the evening on behalf of the EU27, he deplored the fact that “ four years after the fall of the al-Bashir regime, the aspirations of the Sudanese people remain unfulfilled” and stressed that “the return to civilian rule is an urgent imperative”. He added “there is no more time to lose in establishing a civilian-led transitional Government that could urgently address the huge political, economic, security, and humanitarian challenges the country is facing, with the support of the international community.
