European Committee of Regions supports a European Health Space guaranteeing citizens’ right to privacy and data

09/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 8 February, Members of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) adopted an opinion drafted by Daniela Cimpean (EPP, Romanian) supporting the creation of a European Health Data Space (EDHS) and recognising the benefits of such a space for health, research and development. However, they want such a space to be fully respectful of patients’ rights to privacy and data. They want a multi-level governance model that integrates not only the national level of governance and the European level but also the local and regional levels. A crucial element among the various elements desired by CoR members is the reliability and robustness of the EHDS to ensure the protection of citizens’ rights and trust.
