After closing its call for applications for ‘Consolidator Grants 2023’ on 2 February, the European Research Council (ERC) published its initial analysis of the proposals submitted in this context.
The ERC notes a 4.1% decrease in proposals received during this call (2,130 proposals submitted) compared to the 2022 call (2,222 proposals submitted).
In addition, the ERC notes the percentage of women who submitted proposals is ever so slightly lower (35.7% in 2023 versus 36.6% in 2022). The ERC notes that the largest number of applications was submitted in the field of physical sciences and engineering.
The ERC announced that the evaluation of the submitted proposals was underway and that it expects to announce its selection in December.
Nearly 300 projects are expected to split the €595 million earmarked in the ERC’s ‘Work Programme 2023’.
The ERC awards these grants under Horizon Europe, the European framework programme for research and innovation. The purpose of these grants is to help support the careers of researchers—regardless of the individual’s nationality—who wish to carry out research in a host research institution located in the European Union or in one of the countries associated with Horizon Europe and who, since obtaining their PhD, have accumulated 7 to 12 years’ experience producing excellent research.
All areas of research are eligible. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
