13/01/23 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, which will be celebrated on 22 January, France and Germany displayed a united front in Addis Ababa, during a joint visit (12-13 January) of Foreign Ministers Catherine Colonna and Annalena Baerbock, to “support the peace process” after the signing of the peace agreement between the Ethiopian government and the Tigrayan rebels (see EUROPE 13090/23). Both welcomed a first “positive assessment” as the rebels began to lay down their arms. Their talks with President Sahle-Work Zewde and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed “reiterated the political support of the EU and our two countries for the peace process and the fight against impunity”, according to Ms Colonna. The two Ministers also visited a World Food Programme distribution centre and the African Union headquarters. (AN)
