21/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced, on Friday 21 October, an initial emergency aid package of €1 million for Haiti to combat a cholera outbreak, which was recognised by the Haitian authorities in early October. “This funding will support our humanitarian partners’ health operations in Haiti and enable them to quickly reactivate the response mechanisms and infrastructure put in place during the previous epidemic, step up surveillance and care delivery, strengthen coordination and joint response with the Haitian Ministry of Health”, according to the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič. This month, the EU also committed €700,000 in humanitarian aid to support the fight against cholera outbreaks in Syria and €100,000 in Ethiopia, the commission says. (AN)
