Four German regions adopt their Just Transition Plans, for a total of €2.5 billion

21/10/2022 (Agence Europe)On Friday 21 October, the European Commission approved the Just Transition Plans of four German regions. North Rhine-Westphalia will receive €680 million to switch from a coal-based industry to one based on renewable energy. In Brandenburg, €785 million will be used to support the diversification of the region’s economy. In Saxony, €645 million will be invested in renewable energy and the development of a circular economy. Finally, the programme for Saxony-Anhalt foresees investments of €364 million to green the entire economy. While these are regions heavily dependent on coal, a total of €2.5 billion from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) will accompany Germany towards climate neutrality, while ensuring that the transition is fair.
