20/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission intends to extend by three years, until 31 December 2025, the temporary storage of large stocks of liquid mercury waste in the EU. On Tuesday 19 July, it launched a four-week public consultation on the draft delegated regulation it has prepared for this purpose. The delegated regulation will amend Regulation (EU) 2017/852 on mercury and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1102/2008. Its adoption is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022. Current EU legislation allows for the temporary storage of liquid mercury waste in dedicated landfills, pending treatment for final disposal, until 31 December 2022. The feedback period is open until 16 August 2022 (midnight Brussels time). To access: https://aeur.eu/f/2p2 (AN)
