European Commission adopts two equivalence decisions for Chinese and Israeli central counterparties

22/06/2022 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 22 June, the European Commission adopted two equivalence decisions for central counterparties (CCPs) under the supervision of the People’s Bank of China and the Israeli Securities Authority. These decisions establish that the legal and supervisory frameworks of these CCPs are equivalent to the requirements applicable in the EU under the EU Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). Both of these CCPs will be able to apply for recognition by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and then provide their services within the EU. This decision follows recent decisions adopted for the Malaysian, Chilean and Indonesian CCPs, among others (see EUROPE 12967/25). This will facilitate EU clearing members’ access to these foreign CCPs and to the clearing of products denominated in local currencies. (AD)
