28/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched on Thursday 28 April its second 12-week public consultation on a future legislative framework for a sustainable food system in the EU and for integrating sustainability into all food policies, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda (see EUROPE 12801/7). The Commission’s initiative, which will take the form of an EU Regulation, is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023. It will set targets for “healthy and environmentally friendly food”, sustainability labelling provisions to enable consumers to make sustainable choices, minimum criteria for sustainable public procurement of food and governance and monitoring rules, as Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides stressed to the European Parliament (see EUROPE 12936/6). The consultation is open until 21 July at midnight, Brussels time. See the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/1ed (AN)
