15/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – Austrian MEP Angelika Winzig (EPP) called on European telephone operators on Tuesday 15 March to make roaming charges free for Ukrainian refugees. “By temporarily suspending the wholesale ceilings that European operators charge their Ukrainian partners, they could make a real difference to the lives of the many people fleeing to the EU at the moment. In this way, Ukrainian operators could offer free roaming to their customers, allowing them to stay in touch with their families”, said Mrs Winzig. The Austrian MEP was also rapporteur in the European Parliament on the 10-year extension of roaming without additional charges. An interinstitutional agreement on the subject was reached on the night of 8-9 December 2021 (see EUROPE 12850/6). (TM)
