18/10/2021 (Agence Europe)The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) issued a press release, on Monday 18 October, urging MEPs to vote in favour of the report by Nikolaj Villumsen (The Left, Denmark) on the protection of workers from asbestos (see EUROPE 12799/22) on Tuesday 19 October in plenary session. In particular, the text introduces an occupational exposure limit of 1,000 fibres/m3, despite warnings from the European Commission (see EUROPE 12796/17).We cannot turn our backs on construction workers, firefighters, miners and workers in cleaning or waste disposal, who are regularly exposed to asbestos”, said the Federation’s General Secretary, Tom Deleu. In the EU, 3.17 million people have died over the past 40 years as a result of inhaling asbestos fibres, the Federation said. (PH)
