European Parliament calls army human rights violations “crimes against humanity”

On Thursday 7 October, the European Parliament condemned the widespread violent response of Myanmar’s military forces (Tatmadaw) to any form of protest and the serious human rights violations committed against the Burmese population.

MEPs denounce these violations, which “constitute crimes against humanity”, in a joint resolution adopted by the Renew Europe, S&D, EPP and ECR groups (647 votes in favour, 2 against and 31 abstentions). They call for an “immediate, rigorous,...
