On Thursday 7 October, the European Parliament expressed alarm at the fate of Paul Rusesabagina, a human rights defender who saved more than 1,000 people during the Rwandan genocide and who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for terrorism by a court in Kigali on 29 September.
