European Parliament calls for immediate release and repatriation of Belgian-Rwandan Paul Rusesabagina on humanitarian grounds

On Thursday 7 October, the European Parliament expressed alarm at the fate of Paul Rusesabagina, a human rights defender who saved more than 1,000 people during the Rwandan genocide and who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for terrorism by a court in Kigali on 29 September.

In a resolution adopted by 660 votes (2 against, 18 abstentions), the European Parliament calls for the immediate release and repatriation of this Belgian-Rwandan citizen on humanitarian grounds. He has cancer, and...
