Inclusion of waste incineration in ETS could reduce CO2 emissions by 2.8 million tonnes in 2022, according to Zero Waste Europe

Including waste incineration in the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) would reduce CO2 emissions by 2.8 million tonnes in 2022, according to a study published on Thursday 7 October by the association Zero Waste Europe.

This figure would rise to 5.4 million if the ETS covered not only fossil CO2 emissions, but also biogenic emissions (from the incineration of food waste). In 2030, these reductions would be 4.3 million and 8.8 million tonnes respectively, according to...
