Renewable energies have weathered effects of Covid-19 pandemic well, says Eurostat

Renewable energy continued to grow despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on energy demand in 2020, according to provisional data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on Tuesday 29 June.

This growth has led to renewables overtaking fossil fuels for electricity generation.

Fossil-fuel based electricity reached its lowest point in 2020: 1,022,589 GWh, a decrease of 9.8% compared to 2019.
