On Monday 26 April, the European Commission welcomed victories of two films co-financed by the EU at the 2021 Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles: The Father, by French director Florian Zeller, won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (by Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller, based on Zeller’s play) and Best Actor, awarded to Sir Anthony Hopkins. Another Round (Druk in the original version), by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, won the prize for best international feature film.
The EU has supported the development and international distribution of both films with €1.4 million from Creative Europe’s MEDIA programme, said the Commission.
“We are firmly committed to promoting and strengthening this support”, said the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, on Monday. “It underlines the importance of our efforts to help the sector recover and transform in these challenging times”, said Vice-President Margrethe Vestager.
