15/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed on Thursday 15 April the solidarity of the EU and its Member States with the United States in the face of the impact of malicious cyber activities, including the SolarWinds operation, which Washington believes was carried out by Russia. This cyber attack in 2020 targeted governments and companies around the world. In retaliation for this attack, the United States adopted sanctions against the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service on 15 April and announced the strengthening of its commitment to collective security in cyberspace. “We share the concerns of our partners about the increasing number of malicious cyber activities”, the High Representative said in a statement on behalf of the EU, calling on all actors to refrain from irresponsible and destabilising behaviour in cyberspace.
