Brussels, 01/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 31 March, the European Commission launched a public consultation with a view to preparing a delegated act to define the requirements and test procedures for the type-approval of vehicles equipped with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA). As a reminder, all new vehicles sold from May 2022 onwards must be equipped with such assistance. The device, which was bitterly negotiated by the co-legislators (see EUROPE 12199/1), consists of a system that indicates the speed limits of the zones crossed and adds resistance to the pedal to exert a counterforce that encourages the motorist to respect the speed limits. Last November, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) expressed concern about the European Commission’s lack of ambition on ISA (see EUROPE 12610/36). (PH)
