Inheritance continues to increase inequality, says Eurofound

01/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – In Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden, for people aged 50 and over, the average gain in wealth associated with receiving an inheritance is higher than the average gain from obtaining a university degree, according to a Eurofound study published on Tuesday 30 March. The organisation notes that the benefits of parental wealth are passed on throughout life. For the organisation, there is indeed a “manifest wealth persistence”, with individuals whose households have received a large gift or inheritance being richer on average for every age-education combination.
