25/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 24 March, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) approved the agreement reached at the beginning of March (see EUROPE 12677/3) between the negotiators of the European Parliament and the EU Council on the regulation establishing the 2021-2027 edition of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s flagship infrastructure funding programme. This will allow the allocation of a total of 33.71 billion euros (current prices) over the next seven years. The regulation approved on Wednesday will still have to be voted on by the European Parliament, which should be a formality. It will then enter into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, but will apply retroactively from 1 January 2021.
