25/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 25 March, the European Parliament recommended measures to limit marine litter by adopting (without amendments) the report by Catherine Chabaud (Renew Europe, France) on this subject (see EUROPE 12664/12). “The stakes are high”, she reminded the plenary on Wednesday 24 March: Eight million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean every year and 5 trillion plastic particles are dispersed in the sea. She emphasised: - measures to combat the impact of nanoplastics and microplastics on both fisheries resources and human health; - the link between land and sea in European policies (waste and water management); - strengthening the circular economy in fisheries; - marking of fishing gear.
