02/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE), Juan Fernando López Aguilar, officially requested, on Tuesday 2 February, access to EU Council documents regarding the appointments of Portuguese, Belgian and Bulgarian prosecutors to the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The answers given on these appointments by Portuguese Justice Minister Francisca Van Dunem at her hearing in the European Parliament last week clearly did not convince MEPs (see EUROPE 12644/3). In a letter addressed to Ms Van Dunem and seen by EUROPE, the LIBE Committee therefore asks the EU Council to provide it with “all documents, including curriculum vitae (CVs), justification letters and minutes of all the relevant meetings, at all levels, pertaining to the selection and appointment of those candidates, where the candidate selected was not the first choice of the selection panel in its reasoned opinion”.
