02/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU wants to cut funding for the promotion of meat, charcuterie and wine and put labels on bottles that are even more alarmist than those on cigarette packets. This is what the president of the Italian organisation Coldiretti, Ettore Prandini, denounced in a letter sent on Tuesday 2 February to the Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni. Coldiretti is referring to the new action plan to improve the health of European citizens on the European Commission’s agenda. Coldiretti is opposed to plans to introduce health warnings on the labels of alcoholic beverages and to eliminate certain promotional programmes for agri-food products (red meat and processed meats). A decision that affects products that symbolise Made in Italy. (LC)
