On Monday 18 January, the European Commission launched a new public consultation on the ‘Sustainable Use of Pesticides’ Directive (2009/128/EC) with a view to its possible revision, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022 in the framework of the European Green Deal.
The first consultation concerned the roadmap and the preliminary impact assessment of this initiative (see EUROPE 12498/18). 360 comments have been received and are available for consultation.
The objective this time is to gather the views of all stakeholders on the implementation, application and enforcement problems encountered, on the causes of these problems and on possible solutions for greater efficiency.
Farmers and entrepreneurs using pesticides, non-agricultural users of pesticides, NGOs active in the field of health and the environment, professional associations representing industry and economic actors in the sectors concerned (e.g. beekeepers, chemical industries, manufacturers of pesticide application equipment and seeds, etc.), consumer associations, European citizens, competent national authorities and scientific experts are invited to express their views.
The consultation is open until 12 April at midnight, Brussels time. All interested parties can contribute by completing the online questionnaire.
