18/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, today published a letter addressed to the French Senate dated 15 December. In the letter, she calls for amendments to the draft law on global security. Items being called into question are the ban on broadcasting the image or any other identifying element of a member of the police force acting in the context of a police operation (an infringement of the freedom to inform), surveillance by drone and the use of body cams, which must be respectively better regulated and legally defined in order to preserve the privacy of citizens. The Commissioner also stresses the importance of respecting the economic and social rights of law enforcement officials in order to reduce tensions during complex operations sometimes carried out in violent circumstances.
