11/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – The delivery of equipment to combat the coronavirus continues with the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. A shipment of 50 respirators, sent by Denmark, was delivered to Ukraine this week, and personal protective equipment was delivered by the Netherlands to the Caribbean island of Curaçao, the European Commission announced on Friday 11 December. In both cases, deliveries were made in response to requests for assistance. The Emergency Response Coordination Centre ensures that requests and offers are matched. The EU finances 75% of transport costs. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 24 countries have received assistance. The EU has also provided 30 ventilators, 620,000 masks and 50,000 protective gowns from its reserve stock of rescEU equipment to EU Member States that have requested assistance. (AN)
