11/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Research, Mariya Gabriel, and the Moroccan Delegate to the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Driss Ouaouicha, signed on Tuesday 8 December an administrative cooperation agreement on ocean research within the framework of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance. Topics of cooperation include the study of ecosystems, ocean observation, the fight against marine pollution and climate change. According to Ms Gabriel, Morocco’s “privileged location” at the interface between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean is an asset for a better understanding of the link between the Atlantic Ocean and climate change. For Mr Ouaouicha, the future cooperation will enable Morocco to promote its role as a scientific “centre of excellence” at regional and continental levels, citing “climate, biodiversity and food security” as research areas.
