25/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – Businesses liable for the French tax on digital services have now received a notice of assessment for the payment of their 2020 instalments, confirmed a source from the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance on Wednesday 25 November. At the end of October, the French Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire, had already indicated that France would resume levying the ‘GAFA’ tax, since no OECD agreement is expected in 2020 (see EUROPE 12579/21). Last January, Paris agreed to postpone to December 2020 the payment of the instalments due in April on the digital levy in France, while Washington agreed not to impose any trade sanctions against France during the same period (see EUROPE 12410/3). They confirmed that France remains ready to find an international solution so that digital companies pay their fair share of taxes. (MF)
