20/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission and Germany announced on Friday 20 November the mobilisation of €212 million to support the Senegalese government’s Economic and Social Resilience Programme to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on this EU partner country. €112 million come from the EU and €100 million from Germany’s global emergency programme for Covid-19. These funds will contribute in particular to economic support measures for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of Senegal’s private sector, and will help maintain social protection services. In a statement, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, welcomed “this joint effort by ‘Team Europe’ [editor’s note: EU, Member States and EU financial institutions] to optimise the impact of social measures in favour of the most vulnerable population and to support economic actors”.
