20/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Union and its Member States are mobilising 86.5 million euros in direct budget support to the Government of Ghana to help it cope with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Commission announced on Friday 20 November. This support is funded by ‘Team Europe’ as part of the EU’s global response to the pandemic. It will alleviate some of the macroeconomic and financial pressures facing the government, including urgent needs regarding taxation and balance of payments, and ensure the continuation of basic public services such as health care and education. Essential actions to mitigate the devastating health and socio-economic effects of the crisis can be continued while macroeconomic stability is enhanced by closing the financing gap caused by the combined fiscal impact of additional spending and revenue shortfalls.
